Working on version #8 of my Nephrium fragrance (apparently some people want to buy it, amazing). Notes currently are blood orange; cedar; cocoa; night-blooming jasmine; tobacco; cardamom.
Perfume development, like so many creative endeavors, is similar to (my understanding of) design. It's intensely iterative, always balancing fine details—1/1000 of this, 1/1000 of that—with the overall affect of the composition. (You should see the Excel files...!) And you can't control how people perceive it, only react to improve perceptions after research.
